Mercer County

The Mercer County Conservation District makes available state funding and technical support to municipalities and state agencies that maintain dirt, gravel, and low volume roads. To be eligible for the funds an official from the municipality must attend training provided by the Center for Dirt and Gravel Roads where the official learns the techniques for environmentally sensitive maintenance practices. These practices are designed to reduce or eliminate stream pollution stemming from the conditions of the roads. Funds are available to those eligible municipalities. To date, we have completed projects on almost 5 miles of roadway. Projects address such problems as road base and internal drainage problems, road ditch and road bank stability, roadway runoff, stream crossings and other problems.
